At Synergy Gateway, we are tasked with maintaining the clinical placement compliance of over 20,000 students and growing every year. It is an exciting and rewarding task, something that we take extremely seriously and continuously develop industry leading tools to assist all parties in involved (students, schools and clinical partners). However it is critical for students, employers, school administrators and the community in general to truly understand the importance of clinical placement compliance as it relates to student placements within our communities.
So why is it so darn important for students to maintain clinical compliance while being placed by their school in our communities?
The answer is quite simple really, however the road to getting all your requirements is not so easy -as we have been told by the students we service. Maintaining clinical compliance essentially protects the student, the work environment and the people in the community from such things as communicable diseases, and ensures that the people working in these environments have been held to the same health and safety standards. Understanding your current immunization records allows the student entering the work environment the best possible protection against diseases such as Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella and TB. Along with basic health and safety protocols, students are well prepared to work in environments where the potential for these diseases is evident.
Furthermore, it is essential that we protect the safety of these work communities by properly ensuring that people working their have met the training and certification requirements set forth by organizational health and safety policies. These trainings and certifications provide the student with additional skills sets necessary to be successful in their clinical placements and assist the many people with whom they may come in contact with or need to assist.
The requirements for clinical compliance are not set by Synergy Gateway – it is important that students understand this key point. It is the school in conjunction with the placements and communities they reside in that determines just what is required for a student to be accepted into a clinical placement. Our role is to provide students with the tools for success and helping them maintain clinical compliance all throughout their clinical placement years. To that effect we provide countless value added services such as – Verified (Canada’s first and only 100% electronic student clinical placement requirements verification solution), Virtual Doctor (Ontario’s first 100% OHIP covered virtual care service that connects students to licensed Ontario doctors for a variety of healthcare concerns), N95 Mask Fit Testing, First Aid and CPR Training, Food handlers certification and other training and certification programs.
Understanding the risks of non-clinical compliance are extremely important as well. Not having proper immunity presents extreme danger to anyone working in environments where communicable diseases are possible. Same can be said for students who have not properly been trained in First Aid or CPR. By going through the Verified process with Synergy Gateway, students, schools and the communities in which students are placed are one step closer to positive student experiences and invaluable practical training.
